はじめに

  • いい年して「金融一ミリもわからん」はまずいので，金融について勉強する
  • 具体的には，CourseraにてYale University (イェール大学) の講義 Financial Markets を受ける
  • 本ページでは，筆者が講義で興味深いと思ったことを自分用のメモとして記す
  • なお，専門用語は日訳しない．これは，筆者が現在英語を日常的に使用する環境にいるので，英語で専門用語を覚えたいため．

    • Total debt of domestic credit*1はGDPの160%を超えている
      • That means everything is leveraged
    • このcreditの中のどれだけがrent-seekingなのか？
      • Rent-seeking: Rust grabbing what I can get rather than creating anything

    • Bank accountは元々はonly for wealthy people
    • Savings bank movement
      • 19世紀イギリス．「Bank accountを皆が持てるように．Interestによる利益を皆が得られるように．」という運動．
      • 主導者はphilanthropistsでありnon-profit

疑問点，今後調べること

  • Nudgeの話をしていたが…結論がよく分からなかった．Nudgeはlibertarian paternalismの一つらしいが…
    • Nudge is a concept in behavioral economics, political theory, and behavioral sciences which proposes positive reinforcement and indirect suggestions as ways to influence the behavior and decision making of groups or individuals. Nudging contrasts with other ways to achieve compliance, such as education, legislation or enforcement. (引用: Nudge theory - Wikipedia)
    • Libertarian paternalism is the idea that it is both possible and legitimate for private and public institutions to affect behavior while also respecting freedom of choice, as well as the implementation of that idea. (引用: Libertarian paternalism - Wikipedia)

  • 二次大戦後，財閥はどのようにして弱体化させられたか？
    • USがsell their assets and put the money in nominal yen government bondを強制
    • 日本はインフレしbondは無価値に

  • Tomas Malthus (1798)によると，population goes on doubling itself every 25 years. But, resources cannot.

  • High inequalityの州では，支持政党が割れる傾向
  • Poorな人達を助けるのに必要なのはfinancial advisorである
    • 例: 田舎の工場勤務の人が "Buying a home is great investment" と聞き，職場の近くに家を買う．しかし，工場が撤退．すると，人は仕事も家の価値もどちらもを失うことになる．もし，financial advisorがいれば "Don't buy, rent." の一言でこの悲劇を免れる．

  • 今後数十年はfinancial booms and crashes will be even bigger than before
  • Where I am in my own personal life cycleを考えるより，thinking about how I fit into historical events right nowの方が重要．
  • Financial educationも大切だが，maintain human capital (自分の市場価値の維持)も大切
    • E.g., Different condigtionにおけるスキルの向上
    • 所感: やはりキャリアに関してもdiversified portfolioを持つ大切なんだなぁ

  • put-call parity relationshipが完全に一致しない理由は？→Transaction cost

所感

  • 本講義で教授は「現在はHousing marketはbubble．今後崩壊の恐れアリ」と予測していた．実際にcovidでhousing bubleは弾けた？かも？なのでまたも予想を的中させたことになる…多分
